Coke wants to have a chat
Coke UK appears to be treading into the murky waters of social media with this website launch. They’ve called it ‘let’s talk together’ and it seems to follow in the same vein as Walmart’s Checkout blog they launched last year. I’ve been singing the praises of Walmart’s blog to clients for a while now even though it has had a mixed reaction in the...
Gathering "insights" from Social Media →
Nifty little article from the guys across the pond at Marketing Vox. Should brand owners be outsourcing this to agencies? I think so. They expect PR pros and other marketing professionals to know what is topical and will gain media purchase offline and so why should online be any different?
Online monitoring sounds really big brother and 1984 and it will be interesting to see how monitoring...
WOM book practises what it preaches
Over in DC, global Ogilvy PR Digital Influence gaffer John Bell, who works on the WOMMA board with Nielsen’s BzzAgent guru Dave Balter drew my attention on his blog this week when his aforementioned blog was one of the 20 odd chosen by Dave to host his new book The Word of Mouth Manual Vol II which people can download for free. Dave is publishing his book himself having been a little...

Accompanying site here. Really interesting to see Westminster increasingly look to web2.0 applications to reach new and existing audiences. The PM has his own Twitter account, maintained by his comms team updating those that follow him on his daily routine (surprisingly interesting actually) and they are answering a fair few questions flung at them too. Parliament also has its own Twitter account...
Comment is free
I’ve had a change of heart and enabled comments on my blog, for a few reasons
i) I’m getting to grips a bit more with html. ii) Tom helped me set it up iii) I was feeling lonely talking to myself
So now I’ve enabled comments, this is really quite scary and could get even more lonely… Though I know there are a few people who read me from my ‘superb’ SEO...

A new campaign by perfume company Etat Libre d’Orange which claims to make me smell like ”I’d just come out of the shower”… hang on, but surely… just, go and take a shower?…
Nonetheless, great idea, great execution, cuts through and just shows a good idea will work well on and offline, particularly if the images used are a bit, how you put it, well,...
The transfer merry-go-round
As the TMGR (trademarked) is in full swing, I just thought I’d pay a quick tribute to my football club’s arch rivals Nottingham Forest transfer activity: Release your best player, Kris Commons on a free for him to sign for us and then buy our flop of a striker Bobbie Earnshaw (possibly one of the most facially-challenged chaps to have had the misfortune to become famous) for £2.65...

The power of that there interweb thingy...
… this has just got to be the best thing I’ve read this year! It is an article written by one of the Junior Reporters on a local Cheshire news website and has stirred up a huge storm online within the Pride Park fraternity. I was browsing the Derby County messageboards and saw a post I had to take a look at (a very lively community by the by). Just brilliant on so many levels, not...
The good thing...
…about having a tumblr and keeping it nice and tidy with no blogroll, trackback, commenting, feedburner etc, is that I have absolutely no idea who reads my blog (other than my mum- thanks mum, oh and Wils and Sam- cheers boys). Which although a pain in the arse with my marketeer hat on, is actually quite liberating when I’m writing my posts. I don’t have to worry about not...

“Media Relations” In the Age of Twitter →
Some great insights from over the pond. Social media is putting the “public” back in public relations, which let’s face it, has got to be a good thing.
Football gossip
If you’re anything like me and completely enthralled by the football transfer merrygoround, you’ll like this site. Amusingly, they’ve put a success percentage on the rumour accuracy of each paper. I remember back in the 90s when my dad would buy the Sunday People and I would make a beeline straight for the footy gossip page which was one page full of football transfer speculation...

My friend Nathan May, who likes to write emailed me t’other day about a new free paper which is hoping to fill a rather large gap in the London free newspaper market. Lovingly put together with some cracking content, this looks like it might have legs. Particularly if they fit into a pair of skinny jeans… I invite you to take a peruse though their site; some corking blogs, interesting...

Interesting thought, if you have a niche group of interests in one area which a brand bases it’s foray into social media on by creating a network/forum on, e.g. Professional broadcast equipment, then…

The distinct sound of sour grapes. I’m not a Man Utd fan but c’mon Frank, let’s have some perspective here. Why are so many of Europe’s footballing elite, complete mugs? I just can’t take the guy…
Nick Fell
Apologies. It seems I didn’t give credit for my Nike post yesterday. And as Nick rightly points out, “it’s all about the etiquette”. So here is my attempt to remedy the situation. Truth is, his tumblr is much better than mine, not that either of my readers will make much impact on his mass appeal and advertising measurement analytics. Oh and he also has a tremendous...
I have to say, this is my favourite marketing...
Here is the new Nike film. It takes a footballer’s eye-view of rising to the top of the beautiful game. Two things I like about it: The interaction between your fellow teammates The story. It just goes above and beyond what you expect from marketing collateral and based on real customer insight that resonates, cuts through and engages. Think of the money they’ve saved in the media...
